Poor Taste Johnny Cash House Fire Headlines

A list of article headlines about the Johnny Cash house fire that I find to be in poor taste:

  • Cash home in ring of fire
  • Johnny Cash's house 'a ring of fire'
  • JOHNNY CASH'S HOUSE 'A RING OF FIRE'
  • Ring of Fire Destroys Johnny Cash Mansion
  • Ring of Fire at Cash's house
  • Johnny Cash's Home Fell In To A Burning Ring Of Fire
  • Johnny Cash House Burns Burns Burns
  • Johnny Cash's house 'a ring of fire'

I found all of those headlines on the Google News page for the story. Cute plays on words are nice for the happy, feel-good stories. But it's just crass when you try to be clever with your headlines for a story like this. I call "uncool."

I've got some pictures (somewhere) of when I visited John's house a few years ago. I only visited from the road -- the museum was closed both times I was there, and the house, of course, hasn't ever been open to the public. My visit was a bit of a pilgrimage for me when I was in college and, to a lesser extent, a few years ago when yarbiedoll and I visited. I'll see if I can dig up those pictures soon.

Actually, wordplay is warranted for the heds of cutesy stories and lurid gossip stories. Also, the New York Post: "Headless Body in Topless Bar" (really only topped by "FORD TO CITY: DROP DEAD" but that's not much in the way of wordplay).

Yeah, I'm cool with wordplay on cutesy stories. This was just crass.

And if they ever turn Graceland into a nuclear reactor, it would be inappropriate to refer to the core as "A hunk-a hunk-a Burning Love?"

Yeah. Thought so.
