April 9, 1865 -- Appomattox Surrender

143 years ago today, Lee surrendered:

After four years of arduous service marked by unsurpassed courage and fortitude, the Army of Northern Virginia has been compelled to yield to overwhelming numbers and resources. -- Robert E. Lee

Yeah, and the fact that with overwhelming numbers and resources, it took them four years to do it is quite a testament to the general ineptitude of the USA.
