Upcoming Preaching

I'm preaching again on Sunday. I'm going to rework a sermon I delivered a few years ago and use it again.

Isn't that cheating? ;)

Considering that most sermons are a re-work of things that were written 2000 years ago, no.

I have never met a preacher who didn't rework and/or recycle old sermons.

I know, and it seems that both of you missed the smiley. I guess I shouldn't have attempted humor in response to this post. :(

I imagine we both caught the smiley (I did, at least), and while I can't speak for Greg, as a "professional" preacher, I've actually gotten a question enough like that enough times that I've come to regard it as one of the common misconceptions about what preaching entails.

So, while you meant it for humor, and that was clear, my impression is that your joke was based on a misunderstanding—either of the nature of the preaching process or perhaps in thinking that such a reaction is original, rather like the guy who thinks he's the FIRST to come up with certain jokes about my last name.

Anyway, my reaction, at least, was not from any lack of a sense of humor, but rather from a sense of "I've heard that before, and no, it's not cheating."

Sorry to rain on your parade. :/
