Young people leading in church

Yesterday's devotion in devotional hit on one of my favorite Bible verses. Of course, I've found that, quite often, my favorite Bible verse is the one I'm currently reading. The verse from yesterday's reading (1 Timothy 4:12 -- "Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity."), however, has had a special place in my heart for the past several years.

A few years ago, I participated in Disciple Bible Study at my church. During that course, I reconnected with the Christian faith I grew up in. As "they" say, I "rededicated my life to Christ." That's not a "quick-fix" for life -- things have not been a cake-walk for me ever since. I still struggle -- with some of the same things, with different things. But things are better. I'm a better person now than I was several years ago. And I pray that I'll be a better person in several years than I am now.

Back to 1 Timothy 4:12. After completing the Disciple course, I was asked to be the leader for another Disciple group the next year. I was very nervous and reluctant. The person who asked me to lead the group suggested I read 1 Timothy and meditate on it, especially 4:12. I did. And I decided to lead the Disciple group. Since then, I've become more and more involved with ministries at my church, with no regrets.

Paul's words to Timothy were very encouraging to me then and they are still encouraging to me today.
