I sometimes listen to music when I work. I tend to have headphones on to listen to the work I am doing, so I just keep my music turned low enough so others can't hear it.

I wish the muzak system we have at work had a better variety of stations to choose from. it's usually on country or oldies, which I don't really mind either genre because they're both good. but when you hear the exact same songs and don't always consider music as background noise (I am prone to pay attention to the words) you get tired of it all the time. It is good when it's on 70's pop (disco included) or 80's/90's hits. But I wish we had a station that had more alternative songs at least. Man, I miss Soundgarden. :-P

Every once in a while I will turn on music when I'm doing a project that is solitary in nature. (This doesn't happen very often, which is why I checked "no.")

I don't have headphones but I do have an office, so I just turn the speakers down low enough that the sound doesn't carry beyond my office door.

I don't have any particular favorites, though if I am in need of some energy and motvation I'll put on Garbage's "Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go)" or something from one of Paul's "music from the demo scene" collections, and if I'm really stressed I'll put on some Bebel Gilberto or Norah Jones or some instrumental Jethro Tull. I keep my entire collection on random when I listen to it at work, but I usually fast-forward to the classic rock and the 80s music.

None of this applies right now, as I've got the All Christmas Music, All The Time playlist going. :) Everything from Trans-Siberian Orchestra to John Prine to Snoopy vs. the Red Baron to Rock-n-Roll Christmas.

i live in a cubicle.

and as we are having interesting times here at work, it would not behoove me to wear headphones (besides, i don't have a music source w/ headphones, and i don't feel like spending money on one).

i use lj and blogs in general as my brain-washing tool while coding.

As I sit at the front desk and answer the phone, it doesn't really behoove me to wear headphone either. So I have my mp3 player hidden underneath my desk (on top of my computer) and I have a single earbud coming up and resting in my non-dominant ear. Anyone who notices assumes I am on a cell phone. :) And my boss knows and doesn't care, as long as I can still do my job, which I can.

Of course, if times are that interesting at your office, I guess you don't want to get caught sneaking it, either. :/

Some of these I answered Yes to, simply because I do, though maybe not all the time and "Sometimes" was not an option :)

I do use headphones at work, generally, so I don't annoy the cube mates, but they get irritating since the cord isn't long enough, so I sometimes listen without.

Sometimes it's too much trouble to listen to music since I have too many meetings causing me to stop and start things so I don't listen to anything.

When I'm at home working, I put one of my many music mixes on random repeat and listen to that while I'm working, though sometimes when I write that gets too distracting since I tend to sing along :)

I don't listen to music when I work (or at all, really), but sometimes I listen to Clark Howard or Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity.

I usually like live music, so I wish I listened to more of it. :(

mountain jam is a fantastic coding song. 33:40 of instrumental southern rock greatness.

I haven't been able to make it through the song straight without interruption in a long time though.
