Evil Disney

Thanks to stevenberkowitz for pointing out a story about a sad event in the world of entertainment -- Disney to Acquire Muppets from Jim Henson Co. Excerpts:
Terms of the deal, announced late Tuesday, weren't disclosed. The agreement includes all Muppets assets, including the Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and Animal characters, the Muppets film and television library, as well as all the "Bear in the Big Blue House" assets.

The transaction doesn't include the "Sesame Street" characters, such as Big Bird and Elmo, which are separately owned by Sesame Workshop....

Lisa Henson said, "In the months before his death in 1990, my father Jim Henson pursued extensive discussions with the Walt Disney Co. based on his strong belief that Disney would be a perfect home for the Muppets. As such, the deal we announced today is the realization of my father's dream ... My brothers and sisters -- Brian, Cheryl, John, Heather -- and I are so proud to have the Muppets living under the same roof as Walt Disney's own timeless characters. We could not possibly be more pleased."
I don't see how moving to Disney, with their policy of aggressive sanitation of anything remotely controversial, would be a good thing for the Muppets. Read the rest of the story for more details.

Boo to Disney
I don't like Disney owning the Muppets either.

But do you remember the condolence "card" the Disney animators sent to the Henson people after Henson's death? I showed Micky Mouse consoling a grieving Kermit. I thought it was great.

I love the Muppets.

And after watching NYPD Blue last night, I was thinking that for my birthday, somebody could give me a $60,000 emerald and diamond Kermit the Frog pendant like that rapper DJ Drain-O gave his girlfriend...

The thoughts of Animal living with Disney makes me sick especially since the greedy comcast co. is trying to take over disney . What are the Henson's thinking. I should send them an e-mail to let them know people don't like this idea.

This is awful. I can't imagine anything like "Muppet Treasure Island" being done by Disney. They just don't do satire, and don't seem to have a handle on real humor that is funny to both kids and adults (Monsters, Inc. being a notable exception). Disney also hasn't done a good musical in years.

Jim Henson was a genius, and his company has sustained much of that genius. I suppose Walt Disney was a genius, too, but the company has outlived his inspiration.

But, as they say, "Mergers Happen".

Monsters, Inc. being a notable exception

I suspect that's more on Pixar than Disney.
