Yesterday marked my first motorcycle ride of 2004. I got home from church and it was so beautiful outside, that I thought I'd try to crank Rhonda up and see about going for a ride. I honestly didn't expect her to crank up -- it had been so long since I'd ridden her, that I expected the battery to need some charging. Imagine my surprise when she turned over. No muss, no fuss. So while she was warming up, I went inside to get my riding gear and get suited up. It was a quick ride out to Summerfield and back, but it was enough to remind me how enjoyable it is to be out on the open road.

This morning marked my second ride of '04. I rode the bike to work today. It was cold. Even though I've been here for over an hour, my legs are still chilly from the short ride.

Next time, wear pants.

Pants are very important.

You should have taken her for a ride last night in the wind.

That would not have been too smart -- I could have ended up like the man in Surry County who was killed by the wind while riding his bike. From a story at wcnc.com:
In Surry County, a man riding a motorcycle was killed when his bike was shoved by strong winds into the path of oncoming car, authorities said.
When I went home for lunch, I decided it was too cold to be on the bike today, so I drove the truck back to the office. I heard a story on the radio about the two deaths in the area that are being blamed on last night's winds. It took a little searcing at news.google.com to find a good link.

I want one!!!!
OK, I'm green with envy. I want a bike real bad now. I might have to do some creative accounting to find some money this week.

Re: I want one!!!!
I've got a 96 Honda Nighthawk 750cc for sale. ~8400 miles. Great first bike.

Re: I want one!!!!
I don't think a Nighthawk is the look I'm going for. But thanks for the info.

Re: I want one!!!!
s'okay. I was just using you to tell your brother I was selling my bike. I assume you live near him, putting me hundreds of miles north and west of you. So you buying my bike was never gonna happen anyway.

I'm not a southerner
I live up in Maryland. I think I'd eventually get lynched if I moved down south.

If you go far enough south, you should be OK. Like to Florida. I'm thinking Key West.

If you don't make it that far south, you can fend off the lynch mob with your banjo.

Whatever dude.
I just know that I was adopted, while you have blood ties to mom and dad.

Yeah, I saw your comment and thought "Why is Steven selling his bike?" Whatever the reasons, I hope you get what you want for it when you sell it.

Either to spend the proceeds on a cruiser or to quit riding altogether. Only time will tell. My car accident has me really really wobbly out on the roads, and that will not serve me well up on the bike.

If you're taking votes, put a +1 in the cruiser category.

Although I certainly understand being shaken up after the accident. If you haven't already gone through the MSF experienced rider course, it might the cure for what ails you -- help get your "sea legs" back, as it were.
