Today was one of those times, when I saw that hillarygayle linked to a story about a North Carolina teacher who was fired for conducting a milk experiment. It turns out his "milk experiment" was to test the body's ability to neutralize acids:
[The teacher] was suspended with pay in November after some of his honors chemistry students took part in a milk-chugging experiment to test the body's ability to neutralize acids. Each student was given a gallon of milk and tried to drink it in an hour. [Emphasis mine.] Some students drank until they vomited, the body's reaction when it can no longer handle the acids in milk.Sounds like he had his own version of a Milk-Off right in class.
Well, this bit of news about the chemistry aspects of the experiment are interesting and gives me something to think about, but I still think I could drink a gallon of milk in an hour.
Edit: There is lots of evidence on Google -- evidence that includes a video of someone attempting the feat -- that attempting to drink a gallon of milk in one hour is not a good idea. I keep seeing things like "almost impossible." That "almost" makes it so tempting to try.
