New Phone

I got a new wireless phone yesterday. It's the Motorola v600. So far, I'm liking it a lot. A big bonus over my previous phone is that the microphone on this phone always works. My old phone had a problem with the microphone where it would occasionally cut off. If we were on a call at the time, I'd be able to hear you perfectly, but all you'd be saying is "Are you there? Did we get cut off? Can you hear me?" because you wouldn't be able to hear me at all. Then, sometimes, my phone would generate a high-pitched annoying screech that only you would be able to hear just before the phone decided to drop the call. I pretty much isolated it to the phone, not the network, because other phones on the same network would work fine. *shrug* The phone was two years old, so I'm not surprised it was time for a new one.

One of the neat things that my new phone has is a built-in camera. So, being the geek that I am, I set up a moblog where I can post pictures from my phone. Apparently, the site I'm using (textamerica) used to have the ability for the blogs to have an RSS feed, but that's gone now. If anyone knows of a (free) mobile phone picture blog site that will generate an RSS feed, please let me know so I can check it out. Becuase that's just the kind of geek I am.

I'm definitely looking forward to using my moblog to post pictures from SmileFest this weekend.

I <3 my Nextel i730.
I'm gonna keep using the thing till it drops. It's been great, only 2 dropped calls, ever. I've had it since October.

I've still got my 3590 which is functional if lacking in flash and flare. However, my mom wants to do the AT&T wireless family national plan whatever. Anyway, we get new phones. I'm tempted to opt for the 3595 just because it's what I have only in color -- I'm pretty sure that's what I'll encourage her to get, anyway. (Plus, I already have a buttload of accessories for it.) But (shy of the $300 phone you've got) I'd be interested in any suggestions.

I'll ask around and see if I can come up with any good suggestions. And I wouldn't suggest the v600 unless you get it conjunction with some sort of promotion. If my company didn't buy me a new phone every two years, I wouldn't be buying this phone for myself....

I know. I was being kinda tongue-in-cheek. ^_~

I think we're going to do this at the end of the week. After I hear about the apartment. *sigh*

Did I mention I was also planning to buy a car this week?>_

You should also get married and change jobs this week as well, just so you've got most of the major stresses covered. ;-)

After checking with some of my buddies, it looks like the phones you mentioned are great phones and great values. Personnaly, I love Nokia -- they build good equipment. I love Motorola, too, but for the price range you're looking in, I think Nokia phones are better. Just my opinion, YMMV.

If you haven't looked at cellphones.about.com, you might want to poke around over there a bit. They're a pretty good location to get opinions on the different wireless phones and services.

I think you're probably right.

I'm a die-hard Nokia fan -- but I'm tempted by the Sony Ericssons. (Though I can't figure out why a refurbished EricssonT226 is $10 more than a new one on the AT&T wireless site...) I kinda like the tiny brick look. I would be tempted by the Nokia 3200 as a cheap camera phone if it weren't so blasted ....ugly. I can't help it. After years as a Mac user, yes, I value form as well as function. ^_~

I'll definitely check out the site, though. Thanks. ^_^

I've never been happy with the Ericssons. Ever.

Just my opinion. YMMV.

I'm drawn to them purely on an aesthetic level. ^_~

I notice they're not mentioned much in any of these "best of" articles...

Paul and I just post our cameraphone pics to LiveJournal. I assume you could do it with the new(ish) post-by-email interface, but before that existed, he just wrote a script to email a post with a picture attached and have it post to LJ. Neither of us have used it in awhile, as the camera function of our particular cameraphones kinds of sucks, but I think the program (called Kickpost) is still up-and-running if you'd like me to see if he can set you up.

Yeah, I'll probalby be investigating the "roll your own" solutions next week. Ideally, I'd be interested in finding a way to incorporate it directly with LJ, so I may take you up on your offer to look into Kickpost if I don't decide to write something myself. Having a separate blog just for phone pictures would be good too, if it had an RSS feed.

It's not really related, but Mrs. Eagle & I are already needing new batteries! We got our phones last October, and they already take 24-36 hours to get to a full charge, and they only last about a day. :/

Ick. Sorry to hear that. I've never had battery problems with my phones.

I have, but not with phones that are so young... :/

Here I sit, with more phone envy. I'll remedy that as soon as I can after vacation. I like the pic in your moblog as you're waiting for the train. Mondo cool. I'm completely lost as to what is where.
