Introducing Radio DTB

I'm excited (and a little nervous) to announce that I'm creating a new fan-run website and podcast related to the Derek Trucks Band -- Radio DTB.

The weekly podcast will feature live music from the Derek Trucks Band in a radio-style format. The intent is to go through shows available on the Live Music Archive and put out a podcast that features some of the music and provide a little commentary. The format will be a 30(ish) minute MP3 file that you can download (for free) from the Radio DTB website and listen to on your computer and/or portable MP3 player. My intent is to put out a new podcast every Monday. In addition to hosting the podcast, I'll use the website as a blog to provide links to news articles and announcements of when new downloads are available from the Live Music Archive and/or BitTorrent.

I think it will be a fun way to explore the band's history. Some weeks, I might highlight a recent show. Other weeks, I might dig deep into the archives and pull out something from a few years ago. Personally, I look forward to using the project to get even more familiar with the band's music, especially their earlier stuff. If other fans also enjoy the project, that would be great. If the project can be used to help introduce the DTB to new fans, all the better.

I've talked with the DTB management about this project, and they seem to think it's a neat idea. I've spent the past month getting the website set up and the first couple of episodes of the podcast recorded. As I mentioned, this is entirely fan-run -- as such, the equipment I'm using to record the podcast is rather amateurish, but I hope the content of the podcast will be interesting enough that you'll be able to overlook my flaws. Besides, we all know the music is great.

If this sounds like the kind of project you'd be interested in checking out, please visit the Radio DTB website, subscribe to the RSS feed in your favorite news aggregator, and send me feedback either by commenting to items on the website or sending me email.

The first podcast is already available for download -- check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks!

And for all my readers using LiveJournal: you can add the syndicated account for Radio DTB to your friends list if you want: radiodtb.

The site looks awesome. Clean and sweet. And all the links work :-)

Good luck with it!

I'm glad to see you're moving forward with this. I've been wondering when I was going to be able to add the RSS feed to my aggregator. Thanks.

Your posts frequently amuse me - you're a very link-happy person. :)

Seriously, though, I like it when you do it. I just think it's amusing when you link to the same URL (under the same text) twice in one post. :)

Hey, how do I download these as podcasts? Can I use iPodder?

Yeah, you should be able to use iPodder -- I set the RSS 2.0 feed up to "do the right thing" with the enclosures. On the right side of any Radio DTB page, look for a link to "RSS 2.0" and add that to your favorite aggregator. Try it and let me know if it works for iPodder!
