Working Late

OK, now I really am at work. Essentially, I'm just babysitting a load test. Once I kicked it off, there's a lot of sitting around and waiting for it to finish. That's what I'm doing now. Waiting for it to finish. I did manage to get a 2.5 hour nap before coming in. (I know this because I fell asleep before the Alan Colmes radio show started, which would have been at 11, and I got up at about 1:30.) I was planning on passing the time by listening to my iPod, messing around on LiveJournal and/or othernet web surfing, and continuing to read Pillars of the Earth (which I'm really enjoying).

As it turns out, my iPod's battery is dead. It seems that pugging it in the dock, but unplugging the dock from the firewire chain is a good way to drain the battery. (I had docked the iPod when I got home yesterday so it would have a full charge while I was here testing, but I then took my laptop upstairs (sans the devices on the firewire chain). When I tried to fire up the iPod a few minutes ago, it laughed at me.) I'll have to remember that discharge trick for when I actually want to discharge the battery. It's too bad -- I was really looking forward to listening to a 90 minute lecture by Larry Lessig about copyright law and the Creative Commons license. Well, I guess I could stream it through my PC....

Web surfing is increasingly becoming more and more boring for me. I remember when I was in college, I thought that I would never get tired of web surfing. And that was when the amount of content available on the web was a tiny fraction of what's available now. Maybe it's just that most of what's easily available now is fairly low quality. It was much easier to find high quality web content 9 or 10 years ago than it is now.

So that leaves me with babysitting the load test and reading Pillars of the Earth. Reading the book will be a pretty good way to pass the time, so I guess I'll get to that.

ETA: Hrmmm.... Listening to Lessig and reading a book at the same time doesn't do justice to either. I guess I need to choose one or the other....
