Why Some Netflix Movies Get "Lost"

Did you ever think that those pretty red Netflix envelopes would be a tempting thing for a less-than-ethical postal employee to steal? Seriously, they're easy to spot. They've got a DVD in them. And since it's a rental service, the real customer would just report the disc as never arriving and Netflix would send a replacement. Basically, it could be a pretty easy insurance scam.

It seems that a couple of postal employees got caught doing just that:
Two postal workers suspected of stealing Netflix DVDs

LYONS, Colo. - The Denver office of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service has apparently cracked a theft case involving hundreds of DVDs being stolen from the U.S. Mail.

During a two-month period last year, hundreds of DVDs intended for Netflix customers in Lyons, Colorado never arrived at their destinations. Investigators say the problem stopped after postal inspectors caught two postal workers red handed.
