LJ Security Issue

From news: LiveJournal is fixing a security issue on the site. Summary: You don't have to do anything. From now on, all journals will be accessed via a custom subdomain (http://username.livejournal.com for users, http://community.livejournal.com/username for communities). "Old-style" references to journals will continue to work, via a redirect.

Read the post in news for more info.

ETA: Left unaddressed, this security issue allowed malicious users to potentially gain control of your account, so it's probably a good thing that the LJ staff is addressing this.

You'd think they'd fix everything before adding new stuff

Actually, I'm glad that fixing a security issue became a priority for the lj developers. Left unaddressed, it allowed malicious users to potentially gain control of your account.

I don't know, as I haven't dug through the comments on this issue in either of the news or lj_maintenance communities. Based on yesterday's post in lj_maintenance, I'm also expecting a more technically detailed explaination in lj_dev, but that doesn't appear to have been posted yet.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they're holding information like that a little close to the vest so that they have an opportunity to fix the security issue before it becomes well-known and potentially abused. I suggest keeping an eye on the communities I mentioned in the last paragraph over the next few days to get more details as they come out.
