Bicycle Ride

yarbiedoll got a phone call a little after 0700 this morning. That meant that I had enough time to go for a bicycle ride before work. I have fallen a bit out of shape since my last bike ride, and I knew it after about 100 feet of pedaling. It's OK, I'm working to get back in the habit again, so it should work out fine in a few weeks.

Today's ride started with light rain. I thought about using that as an excuse to not ride, but was undeterred. As soon as I decided to hold firm to my decision to ride, the rain quit. My brakes sounded fine today -- this was the first time I'd ridden since getting back from the shop. The rear brake seemed great. The front brake seemed a little hard at first, and it had a bit of a squeal, but once I started riding, it seemed to work itself out just fine.

I was going to report the distance, etc. for today's ride, but my bicycle computer seems to have reset itself already. I guess I waited too long. Anyway, it was about a 30 minute ride, about 5 3/4 miles. I had a hard time going at first, and my speed stayed around 8 or 9 MPH. After about 10 minutes, I got in a groove and was able to keep my speed in the 12-16 MPH range. I think I ended with an average speed of 10.7 MPH. I think I need to work on slowing down a bit, and running in a more difficult gear. Trying to speed along my route isn't as fun as I think it could be if I slowed down a little. It's just hard to keep from trying to go faster with this bike -- the gears make me want to shift up.
