A few weeks ago, when I was visiting Tyrrell County for the family reunion, I took some time to do some waymarking. Specifically, I was hunting finds in the North Carolina Historic Markers category. It was a very successful weekend, with me picking up all of the markers in Tyrrell County (OK, there was only one there) and all but one of the markers in Washington County.
Here's a list of the markers I found:
Tyrrell County
Washington County
- B-10: Ram Albemarle
- B-12: James Johnston Pettigrew
- B-13: Augustin Daly
- B-22: Mackeys Ferry
- B-23: Buncombe Hall
- B-29: Charles Pettigrew
- B-35: Lake Company
- B-49: Rehoboth Church
- B-57: Somerset Place
- BB-6: Battle of Plymouth
- BBB-4: Hoke's Final Line
- BBB-5: Ransom's Assault
- BBB-6: 85th Redoubt
- BBB-7: Union Earthworks
- BBB-8: Naval Action
- BBB-9: Fort Williams
It was lots and lots of fun. I also hit about half the markers in Edgecombe County with yarbiedoll on the way back west. I'm still sorting through those pictures and working to add the waymark entries. Maybe in a week or two, I'll be done with that. In the mean time, in addition to the links to the waymarks above, if you want to look at some of the pictures I've taken while studying the highway markers, you can see them all in my gallery: North Carolina Historic Markers.
