Thoughts On Sleep

First, I think I'm finally "caught up" on my sleep. I feel bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning, ready to attack the day. I'm brewing up a big ol' cup of Irish Breakfast tea, which I'll enjoy with a spoonfull of locally produced honey. So that's good and everything.

Now I've got another thought on sleep that's been banging around in my head for a while. See, I really don't get enough sleep. I make do with what I get, and every now and then just kinda crash and catch back up with a normal(ish) schedule. Some nights, even when I go to bed, I can't get to sleep -- my mind is still racing, and just needs to calm down before it will let my body go to sleep.

It's times like that when I think about the possibility of looking into getting some sleep aids. There are several OTC options like Tylonol PM, Advil PM, or even just Benedryl. There's also a slew of prescription options, which I see advertised on television from time to time. But here's the thing that gets me when I see those advertisements -- they almost always include a disclaimer. "Before taking XXX, be sure that you have a full 8 hours to devote to sleep." Now, that's the problem -- I usually don't have 8 hours. What I want is something that will help me make the most of the 6 hours that I devote to a night's sleep. I simply don't want to give those other two hours up for sleeping. So, whenever I find myself contemplating sleep aids, I go back to the thought that if I followed their instructions and devoted 8 hours to sleep, I probably wouldn't need the aid.

*shrug* That's just how it is for me right now.

It sounds like you're trying to do too much in a day. If you tried to do less, your mind would probably shut down easier, and you'd find it easier to get to sleep.

If your body needs that extra sleep, you should probably "give those other two hours up for sleeping."

My body doesn't need that extra sleep, it just really wants it. ;-)
