Best Beatles Album

So I'm listening to my iPod, essentially on shuffle, and a Beatles songs comes up. It's one of my favorite Beatles songs (no surprise, it's a Harrison composition). I won't say more than that since I've already influenced the poll too much.

It's been a while, so I'd love to start a fight lively debate on a highly subjective question. What better way to do that than to ask a question about music? Even better, a question about The Beatles?

So. Have at it.

You are a cruel cruel man for making me choose.

Sgt. Pepper edges out the others... mostly because it works so well as a cohesive whole, rather than a collection of hits. It's just as likely that tomorrow I'd give the edge to The White Album.

The White Album is so close a second as to almost tie, but not quite.

The Beatles 1. How can it get better than a pile of #1 hits? :D

I wonder if Metallica's "Metallica" (aka The Black Album) was an allusion to The Beatles' "The Beatles".

I'm torn between Rubber Soul and Revolver. I've got to think some more.

Those 2 albums represent a transition period for them. Rubber Soul is the end of the 4 man band era and Revolver is the beginning of the large orchestrations and experimentation era. Agreed, tough call.

BTW, we have the UK releases of those albums. In the US, those 2 albums were split into 3 albums w/other material to flesh them out - Rubber Soul, Yesterday and Today, Revolver. I like the UK versions well enough but it's not what I grew up with. The song order still throws me as well as different songs.

Sgt. Pepper, Abbey Road and Magical Mystery Tour are hard to choose a best from. They are each unique and great. Abbey Road is, for me, the most complete album... it plays like a "rock symphony" from "Because" to the end. Magical Mystery Tour has several revolutionary songs... "I Am the Walrus", "Baby Your a Rich Man","Fool on the Hill", and I think "Strawberry Fields".

Asked my girl what she wanted to be... she said, "babeh, can't you see..."
I love Rubber Soul because it might seem underrated as an album. But, the music is fantastic. It keeps a bit of the "innocence" while taking a step forward.

i'll give my nod to "sgt pepper" as it truly was a landmark in recording history. i'd also consider "love" for its skillful way of showing the beatles are still as relevant and influential as ever.

I voted for Abbey Road but love, love, love the Beatles, so I will (and have) listen(ed) to all of them hundreds of times.
