Double Red Cell

I gave blood during my lunch break today. I did the double red cell thing again, which is always so much fun for me. I like watching the machine work. I'll be back in March.

If you can donate blood, you should.

What's the double red cell thing? Do they spin out some of the plasma and then give it back?

I am always glad when you do this. I black out giving a blood sample, which is drastically less than donating blood, and have been advised that it is perhaps not in my best interest to donate. =(

Yeah, it sounds like being a blood donor isn't for you. Glad you enjoy hearing about it when I do it, though.

If you want to help out with blood donation without actually getting stuck with a needle, you can do things like provide snacks at blood drives, help with blood drive sign-ups, etc.

I should look into that. Good call! =)

It's taken me a couple of visits to get used to the metallic taste the anti-coagulant gives me. (Someone told me the anti-coagulant was responsible for that, anyway.) But now my favorite part is watching the plasma fill the bag (it looks like beer!) then empty back into my arm, since it drops in temperature enough while it's outside of my body for me to notice the difference as it spreads down my arm....

I WISH. Unfortunately, I spent one too many months in the UK when I was in college, so I fall into that at-risk-for-BSE category. BAH. I miss being able to donate blood.
